In late 2019, we spoke to Doneeca Thurston, the newly-named Director of Lynn Museum/Lynn Arts. The 29-year-old Lynn native said her new role felt like a homecoming. She shares her vision for how the museum can be a champion for its majority minority community and ensure that local artists feel respected and celebrated.
Doneeca Thurston is currently the Director of Lynn Museum/LynnArts, located in the heart of the Downtown Lynn Cultural District. A Lynn-native, a lot of her efforts are focused on community-centered initiatives, committed to making Lynn Museum/LynnArts’ spaces more inclusive, accessible, and visible to all.
Doneeca serves as a board member for Voices Against Injustice, Prevent the Cycle, and North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, serves on leadership teams for the Essex County Community Foundation’s Creative County Initiative, Lynn Education District, and Essex National Heritage Area, and volunteers on committees for the Salem Arts Festival, Raw Art Works, and Lynn Main Streets. Outside of her work/board commitments, you can find Doneeca spending time with friends and family (socially distant, of course), catching up on the number of books she has downloaded on her Kindle, or cooking and baking new vegan recipes in her kitchen.
